switch it off and see if it starts again......
also check that the wires to the starter motor are not loose......
Hi Guys
Jump into BlackBetty,OR THE BEDFORD as a workmate calls her turn the key and nobodys home.
All the lights light up,fuel pumps running, just no turn over or sounds like its trying to.
Did the emergency start incase the key was dud,no start.
Pulled the ECU,still a small amount of oil,but much less than before.
Gave her a push start and she sprang into life.Starts now perfectly.
I did replace the fuel block very recently,Im thinking the starter motor has a guts full of diesel and dust????? Or Richard has half dislodged a wire on the starter whilst doing the head gasket.
Anybody had similar probs????

Were any windows down in the vehicle? sometimes the immobiliser will self arm, and the only way to disarm is to lock and unlock the vehicle with the fob buttons.

Yep........I had the same problem with one of my vehicles, start ok, drive to shops, no start to come home........turns out that one of the wires to the starter was loose, so one 12mm spanner later, no problem, Oh I also upgraded my battery as well.......................But word of warning....before you go clambering under the vehicle and putting your hand up, with metal spanner clutched in palm of hand, through all the pipes etc to tighten the offending nut....................disconnect ya battery.......less painfull that way.![]()
Thanks guys
Im gussing on a loose starter motor connection, mainly due to the head just been done. The battery isnt a problem, its a big CAT mother of a thing from a CAT grader,Baz has its partner in his 80Ser![]()

Speaking of Bedfords, I didn't know they were over here in Oz. I used to drive one at work years ago. It sounded like a absolute bag of hammers.
It makes me shudder just thinking about it.
Bedfords were one of the most common trucks in Australia from the 1930s until probably about 1980 when Australia started to source their trucks (small and medium) from Japan rather than from the UK and the US (in both cases by local assembly). Possibly a result of Britain joining the EC and ending Commonwealth (previously Empire) preference, forcing Australia to realign their trade.Originally Posted by downundersteve

Jeeze Andrew your having some set backs..but you know me always look on the brightside...hours of reliability testing at your playground..
Hopefully its just a loose nut on the starter motor instead of behind the wheel (steering that is)Thanks for the heads up on the Cabinets but there already done as is the granite bench top and the Glass splash backs were got the floors being done all next week so it should be fun.
had a similar problem with the 'fender, nothing turning over at all, the dash lights etc working, 'fender just not starting; it was the end of the day so i was lucky to have the mechanics still in, they came out, had a look, tried to jump start it at the starter with no response, checked all the wires at the starter, all fine, by now shes getting late and still not starting so i bite the bullet and tell work mechanics we'll just get her out the gates & i'll get rac to tow to my landy mechanic, hooked her up to tow out the gates and i don't know why but i thought i'd give the key another turn just as we'd started to move & she starts but the horn is dodgy so i can't honk to let them know shes running & its ****ing down so they can't hear her running so have to high beam them to stop, i go up to their ute & tell them what i did, their first question, have you got an immobiliser? yes i do but figured immobiliser is connected to alarm & central locking which were still operational so that wasn't the problem. work mechanics say that is the problem & might need replacing, get her home & booked her in for my next rdo. it runs without a hitch for a week so i re-schedule landy mechanic to look at it at the next service. lasts another two weeks before it happens again, call rac they come out & say its the starter motor it needs replacing, bro in law comes over has a look & says immobiliser stuffed so shows me how to bypass it. too fiddley for my liking so booked in at my landy mechanic who calls to say (as he's working on it) if he disconnect immob. i will lose central locking & alarm, do what ya gotta do i need a vehicle so he does. two days later 2am alarm in landy going off all lights on (spotties, hazards etc) so have to disconnect batteries & wait for alarm to die off, dead by 3am reconnect batteries & happens again so i disconnect them and ponder torching landy as find it hard to understand how this could happen when i've been told alarm also had to be disconnected & the lights if ever left on without running have always gone to park/sidelight function, call mechanic first thing in morning explained what happened says bring her in i say will try reconnect battries & bring her down but wifes not happy & i explain monies tight at the moment (just paid $1800 to him for work on landy 2 days ago) he says well bring her in when you can afford to. landy wont ever be going there again which is sad after i've been going there for 4 yrs but at least its running thanks to bro in law.
to cut a long story short, it was the immobiliser that was the initial problem (in my case)
