    300tdi Won't Start

I have a 300tdi and last weekend I turned on the ignition key to start position and nothing happened, although the dash lit up and all lights etc worked but did not turn over the motor.

Battery and alternator charge ok and the fusible links ok, so I suspect that it is either the relay to the starter motor or the ignition switch. Subsequent re-starting was ok and I did not worry too much about but it did it again today, but did not start so I pushed started it.

Can anyone shed some light on the problem?

    Thanks in advance

I have had my ignition switch colapse on mine. It intermittently either would not start, or would cut out while running over a couple of weeks.

Ended up being the ignition switch assy. A little bit of a fiddle but not hard to change out.

    Cheers

If its a 300Tdi Disco it might be the spider unit playing up, as they always do. You can get the spider unit out and check the board to see if there's any burnt out bits, if there is just buy a bypass lead and fit it and should slove your problem or just fit the lead and hope for the best

When it plays up again :

    1. check the leads going to the starter / solenoid to see if they're loose. If they are tighten them & spray the terminal (starter / solenoid) with CRC or similar

    2. if it still won't start, tap the starter motor with a hammer. If this starts it, then it's the starter motor, otherwise suspect the ignition switch.

Thanks will try this next time to determine if its the starter motor, as it's a 95 model the spider is not an issue as it was from 96 onwards....

Thanks everyone for their help looks like it's down to the ignition or starter motor.
