Thread: modified rear shock mounts.

mate ive got the same probs but on both ends of the shocks i think ive resolved the bottom end prob with bigger thicker washers and 10 mm thick insertion rubber like convayor belt stuff but the top mounts i havent played with yet but your method looks a treat ...

Bill Larman wrote on another board that he changed the angles of the eye's top (and bottom, as that's the shocks he used) to something similar to the angles on a D2 after cycling the suspension through full travel (with a fork or crane, can't remember) and playing with the angles.

going for a play tomorra to test things out. atmo the bushes arnt better off sitting neutral, but will be when articulated. i deffinatly think heim joints will be the way to go!

i had the same prob with the disco. but on the 90 LR have welded ''cups'' onto the lower mount to contain the rubbers. atmo these are working a treat.

ok, it didnt work! i was hedging my bets on the side of no good, but after 30min at appin and 2 broken shock eyes yep no good!
with the travell i have and the angle of the new mount the shock eye binds up on the bush washers on either side of the top eye. so after 1 snap, and a ''what was that'' and then a thudd thudd rattle, i figured it was no good.
oh well live and learn i spose,
now its off for some rebuildable rod ends

std alloys, 285 75 r16 silverstone mt117 sport. slight rubbing on towers front and rear, nothing a 30mm offset rim wouldnt fix

That looks like the opposite to me - lowered mount not raised. The raised mount would be for longer travel (and therefore longer body) shocks. The lowered mount is to use standard shocks on spring-raised vehicle, with no additional articulation.
