One for the LR/RR Gurus (Gurii??)

    Hi all,

Did the P38A Rangie ever come out with the Td6 engine? And, if so, did any come to OZ?

Land Rover did make a Rangie with a 6cyl 2.5L BMW motor, but Land Rover Aust never bought it over here. I beleive they thought there would'nt be a market for them....just like they thought there wouldn't be a market for the 90.

While there may have been a diesel fitted to P38s overseas the TD6 was never fitted.

I suspect that the reason for not selling the 90 was mainly because they thought that 90 sales would come straight off Disco sales. For similar reasons the 110 was dropped when the Disco was introduced, and not imported for a couple of years.

Oh! and the plural of guru is gurus - the word comes from Sanskrit, not Latin - and if it were from a second declension Latin word, the plural would only have one i.

I was just about to say the same thing.....

Anyway - I thought they couldn't sell the 90 here because of the location of the fuel tank, as it didn't meet some ADR requirement.

I did read or hear somewhere that the reason was fear of overheating - which I fail to understand as the car is sold in European countries that are a hot as many places in Oz, e.g. Spain, Portugal, etc.

Maybe it was the experience with the VM powered RR Turbo D that turned them off.

    G'day Folks

One reason why the 90 wasn't a huge seller here was the price, and the fact it was only ADRed as a 2 seater, and Station Wagon versions were not allowed, seems that certain Asian Manufactures might have had a hand in that, just like they stopped them being released in Aust in the 80's "V8 swb Landrovers would be to dangerous for Australian motorists" but you could still register you Yank V8 powered Jap machine! who said that industrial espionage didn't exist in Aust
