    Question New owner of Disco11

    Hi All,

My '87 Rangy had an altercation with an AU Falcon (not my fault) at about 60 kph. As a consequence the Rangy is a total loss, although it did the right thing by me as I walked away without a scratch (big bang though). In any case, I've had an upgrade forced on me. I don't know how it happened, but the better half suggested a Disco11 (2000 model, V8i, auto, Dual fuel). It is a beautiful car to drive. My question is, are there any faults/ gremlins that I should look out for with this model? Things that will cost me money or heart ache if they are not attended to. Things such as the exploding plastic fan on the Range Rover.

    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Ross
Welcome aboard,Im sure you will love your new beast.
Mines diesel so cant offer any petrol specific advice.
There is heaps to learn about them, dont be afraid to ask questions.Im sure once you start poking around with the search facility you will find many months of reading.
A huge improvement in off-road ability can be had by engaging the centre diff lock, which you cant do because Landrover removed the lever. There are several ways of re-instaling it,a search on CDL will help.
HILL DESCENT CONTROL find a big steep hill in a safe place use it to see what it does.THEN NEVER USE IT AGAIN.Its way too fast for serious steep off-roading and will get you in big strife.

    Best of luck.

    Congratulations on your upgrade Ross!
Mine is a Tdi so I can't speak from experience on the Td5 but from what I've read there could be a problem with oil getting into the wiring loom, with the accelerator sensor (?) failing, er... can't think of anything else.
Service it regularly and change the engine oil every 5000Km and it should last you for decades.

I have had D1's and D2's - and my honest opion is that if you keep an eye on the fluids (oils, grease, diff fluid, auto fluid, etc.,) and change them regularly then that is half the battle

Wait till you go out with a few of your local AULRO members offroad, they will set you up with seemingly impossible tracks and you will do it with ease
Then you have a terminal disease
