10 Spline Rr Axels How Tuff R They????

Wanting to lock my reardiff in my 84 rangie and would like to hear some advice on wat axels to use and what system to use should i use a lock rite or a true track and how much would they cost and were the best supplyer is ..
currently its a 10 spline the diff came outa the front of the truck when i replaced the whole front diff and housing disc to disc cause my old swivel pins were shot .. when i broke the rear diff on our last run up wallaroo sf i did it well enough to put the plenatry gears through the back of the housing this is were disco dave came to the rescue and towed me up the last hill to get back to the campsite and remove the rear axels and prop shaft . when i got home on the front diff i drove it for a couple of weeks before i repaired it all was fine i welded a patch over the hole cleaned out the broken bits and put in the replacement center all is fine now using the orignal rear axels id just like to know if they will stand up to having a locked diff spinning them on the 33's im currently running so far the axels have coped they were fine when i replaced the center not a twist to be seen ..
Im asking this because of wat i saw on the watagans trip it was a twisted maxi axel max showed us(out of tusker and he said it was found when the diff was serviced ) it had me wondering about axels all day from there in as i thought i mite bust one but i didnt so heres hopen 4 the rite advice cheersnbeers for now guys

Theres plenty of info about this on the Rover board at Outer Limits.

The other Chris runs 10 splines, & he doesn't hold back. Breaks one every now & then. 24 splines are alleged to be stronger.

For some $$$, get some maxidrive or jacmac axles. Something else will break before they do - CVs or diffs.

Truetracs are an LSD, an improvement but dion't work with a wheel in the air. For the same money a detroit locker wil improve things no end. But they have issues in sand & in slippery conditions.

For manual lockers, theres basically maxidrive, jacmac & airlockers. All have their good & bad points. If you compare what you get for your $$$, they are similar. Sometimes airlockers are combined with maxidrive or jacmac axles.

I can recomend maxidrive - basically fit & forget. It doesn't break & doesn't give trouble.

In the next few weeks I will be fitting a rear TruTrac lsd with 24 spline JMac axles (upgrade from 10 spline). I will let you all know how it goes.

    like what??

pretty sure they dont make a lockright for the rover diff!

i used to flog my v8disco with 10 splines never broke one? i bought a 2nd hand detroit 10sp center gave the axles curry for a while, still didnt break any? got a cheap set of std 24sp disco axles and got the gears in the 10spline detroit converted to 24sp. was just for peace of mind...

i now run detroit rear and truetrack front, unstoppable!

    cheers phil

That is a long term plan for me. LSD in the rear until the $$$ become available for a locker, then move LSD to the front.

We've had issues in soft sand when they won't unlock, causing problems turning. Just more drag in a tight situation which you can do without in soft stuff.

The more torque you put through an axle, the more stress it cops. With bigger more aggro tyres, diff locks, its just a matter of time before it breaks.

Some people seem to get away with 10s, others snap them regularly. You're still inviting trouble with diff locks & 24s in my view.

Bear in mind, that larger tyres and/or aggressive tread = higher risk of some kind of damage to the drive train, and how hard you push it, of course.
I've got ARB lockers front and rear and I reckon it is easier on the componentry coz a spinning wheel won't come down with a bang which can happen otherwise.
I know 90% of u guys are saying "doh" - this is for the other 10%
Its all a compromise, but u gotta get there

This is why ionly want the rear locked cause grumpy dose lotsa beach driving and a front would make turning in the powder even worse
    thanx for the input max

Thats what the other tuff trip Chris does.

But a CIG locker would be the worst possible in sand in tight turns...
