    No indication of trouble, it was found tracking down some diff noise. That's another story.

    What's interesting though, is that the axles have been recalled & replaced once without charge. During 2004 from memory. Story goes Mal tooled up on a pre-production batch/order going to the Israeli army... & of course production versions of this P38 diff were different. Axles needs to be 1/2" longer or so to fully engage the splines.

    My 24 spline Truetrac centre arrived today, as did the second hand axles. New carrier bearings will be here tomorrow, so it looks like I have a job for the weekend.

    so max were these twisted because they were to short or were they the replacement ones?

    for a rough idea..

    take a block of butter.... grab it between you hands, twist.

    now, microwave the butter and repeat...

    youve just simulated the relative strenghts of rover 24 and 10 spline axles compared to real axles from somewhere like maxidrive.

    3 hours work this morning saw the TrueTrac and 24 spline axles fitted. A brief test drive saw the Rangie go up a little hill much more easily than it has in the past. More testing will happen this afternoon or tomorrow.
