    Disco Wiring

Can anyone tell me if there are any power leads in the roof lining behind the plastic cover just above the front interior light in a 98 disco ? Think i might put my gme remote uhf up there and it will make it a lot easier if there is power there already. Maybe wiring for a sunroof if fitted is tucked up there waiting for use ?

it is really easy to get power up there..... i did this job just the other week but wired the uhf to the second battery under the bonnet so my main battery is isolated from the drain by the traxide controller..... i hate flat batteries....

5 minute job to get cable up there in a professional manner.

The interior light has power to it (all the time) and it would be easy to loop into that supply

..................if the fuse/supply/wire is big enough

Looks like it's a 20a fuse from the satelite fuse box, so it should be enough, but you would want to put another fuse between the uhf and the power supply.

If there is wiring there for the sunroof - this is supplied via the sunroof control unit - so there may be further complications here - in so much as getting it live without upsetting anything else.

The wire to the interior light is quite thin - I wouldn't be running a UHF off it. Itm ight work but the voltage drop would probably be too high when you transmit. Best to try and run a dedicated wire up there.

There's nothing to take 10amp up there - only power for a single 20w bulb. Easier to tuck ordinary twin cable - undo the top shelf, plenty of holes to assist, then down the side, and theres a gap at the side into the dash.

Exactly how many amps do your radio's draw? I've had several GME uhf's and they only have 3A fuses in line.

If you do the maths - amps/volts cable dia you will find that the small draw off a uhf will run on a very small wire

I'm thinking it would be for someone who wants to fry the UHF before blowing the fuse
