    How does it effect longitivity of the engine and components?

    Hey mos

    What sort of $ did you pay for the 3" system and does it have a muffler?Thinking of doing the same to my D2TD5 to get it to breath a bit better. Have the chip but the low down lag is still woeful sometimes.

    We have been away for the last 8 weeks good to hear that there is another option for the ECU upgrade what was the cost and haw long did it take.

    The upgrades are well within the design limits of the engine etc.

    Careful programming provides an increase without adverse effect on engine reliability etc, however, if you have a pre-existing issue with the engine/gearbox etc it can be accentuated by the upgrade. This is not the upgrades fault, and, in the case of one of my clients, we actually resolved an issue the dealers were unable to fix for 4 years through clever programming to suit his vehicle.

    Larger tyres etc, are more detremental to the vehicles longevity than the incremental increase in power.

    My vehicle has ran the most aggressive programs available for its entire life and now at 115000kms is still running fine! It has had oversized rubber for years (about 500km after I got it it got changed).

    I am still running stock drive line (except front shaft and rear axles), so running std CVs, front axles, gears, diff centres etc....

    The ONLY thing I do is ensure factory service intervals are adhered too at all times.

    As for economy, the mild upgrade increases driveability, economy improves if you do not change driving style to accomodate the upgrade (eg, dont start PUSHING the vehicle harder).

    If you drive the same, but enjoying the extra torque, etc, then the vehicle is smoother and just as/if not better than, the original.

    If however, you enjoy the power and utilise it more (harder acceleration, higher rpm etc...) you will run to same or slightly increased consumption. Usually no more than 1l/100km

    ooooohhh i reckon i can deal with the extra 1l/100k? on top of my worst thats still only 15l/100k..

    anywho its still wwaaayyyy better than the old 3.5's figures of 20l/100k at best

    i agree with this also, mainly its down to the driver and the conditions. ive only upgraded the diff centers, eg detroit.
    im intrested to see if my thoughts are correct over time.

    Hey Mick, I think that I paid around the $500 mark for my exhaust. It is a 3” mandrel bent system with a single free-flow muffler. I probably could have gotten away without fitting a muffler but this one seems to flow quite well and keeps the noise levels down. The turbo spools up much quicker, even without the ECU mods, and it revs a lot easier.

    I did find quite a big difference in the prices that I was quoted from a number of exhaust fitters though. I think the highest that I was quoted was about $900 plus the cost of the muffler.

    So it pays to shop around a bit.

    Tombraider... could you pm me im interested in getting the Mod done... but you did say in the marketplace ads not to pm you... you would pm us! im also interested in the intercooler... but need to clear that with the missus...

    anyways... appreciate it if you could....
