    No Power ??

    Hi guys,

went 4wding on the weekend (tried out my new Goodyear MTR's - might i say they are bloody unreal), anyways... i washed out the engine bay and was extremely careful..... engine started first go after washing, all was good.

The next day i noticed it was a little under powered and got progressivly worse until it hardly ran!! So i pulled out the plugs (they were pretty black) and gave them a clean, RP-7'd all connectors etc.

Now it runs normal again on gas, and runs on petrol but really underpowered. As in i'm driving along at 2000Rpms and it's fine, Kick it in the guts and it will rev up but it doesn't have the power to go with it ??

Any ideas ? Fuel filter sucking air ? injectors ? I'm stumped

Plug leads, dirty distributor cap, water in the dizzy, worn / faulty rotor, loose/dirty injector connections, loose coil connections............

start there - with the easy bits, and anything else where water could have got in, connections could be loose or dirty.

Have you checked the aircleaner? It could mess up the petrol side of things.
Gas is a bit more tolerant.

If its OK on LPG, then its a petrol starvation problem, check your filter or look for a kinked hose/ pipe.

Check to see if your oxy sensors are either damaged or coated in mud, this will upset the fuel mixture a lot and will not effect LPG. Also, it could be a coincidence, but air flow meters on these D2 V8's are like falcon door handles, you'd sell about 20 a week. This can also effect petrol but not LPG. If you can, get it plugged in and chrcked by someone who knows how to interpret correct airmass readings at idle and loaded, and can test oxy sensors for correct opeeration. Interestingly, because these use Bosch Motronic management, your friendly euro car ( Peugeot, Volvo etc) workshop will be able to hook up their Bosch diagnostics to it and have a look.

    Good luck.

thanks guys, i'll have to have to go and see if i can get someone to check the airflow meter as i'm pretty sure it's not a fuel issue.

Well the Air Flow meter fixed and working perfectly without replacement !!

Called the techy from a very reputable Gas Conversion company and he suggested that i take it out and take the sensor out of the intake pipe and give the sensors (thin wire etc.) a VERY gentle clean with some warm soapy water (and rinse) before leaving it in the sun for a couple of hours to dry.

Was a bit worried about putting water over it but it now works perfectly and i have all my power back !! Every one else told me to "throw it out it's cactus"

being such a common problem throught i would share my solution in the hope it'll save someone else the $500.

Ain't that a story you hear a lot of?

I was told that as well. "It'll be the MAF, it always is".

Removed 4 Torx screws & carefully split it & rinsed the hot wires with Metho.
Did you do yours whole & dunk it?
