If the TD5 coolant temp gets too high (I haven't found the temp) then power will be limited and the a/c will be turned-off, but normal power will be available once the temp drops to an acceptable level. When my 2 had the fans running all the time, the engine did not have reduced power, but when the 99 overheated it went into reduced power mode. The light is supposed to be turned-on by instruments at 121 deg and turned-off once below 118 deg, but it doesn't happen unless it gets over 127 then it will stay on until less than 118.Originally Posted by LandyAndy
The fault code on my 03 had to be cleared to stop the fan running continually, so Testbook or similar would be reqd.
If instruments gets an out-of-range temp signal (my testing reveals > 127 approx) from the ecu then the high-temp warning light will be turned on and the needle will drop to the bottom of the gauge. (Apart from the startup lamp test, that's the only time the hi-temp light seems to work on a TD5, but it seems to work OK on V8s. Intruments knows what engine is installed and is supposed to turn the light on at slightly different temps but there must be a programming fault re the TD5 engine.)
