    Hub Leaks

I have just replaced the hub locks on my series 3, and they have started to develop oil leaks, particularly the left one. I took one of them off again to check it out, and a fair bit of oil came out from the bearing, is his normal? (I do not remember this happening when i took the old ones off)

Hub lock? Not familiar with the term. Do you mean Free wheel hub?
But in any case you can expect to find oil in the wheel bearings. Although they are initially grease packed on assembly, there is no seal between the swivel housing and the hub (or between the swivel housing and the diff) so oil will make its way to the wheel bearings (IF THERE IS ANY IN THE SWIVEL!), particularly on the left side, due to road camber. This is the main reason why wheel bearing problems are very rare on Series Landrovers.

Check the breather on the axle housing near the diff and make sure 'it can breathe' also use new paper gaskets and goo if you have got any.

If you don't do a good job of cleaning and mating the faces they will leak.

Thanks for the info, i think the free wheel hubs i got are not that flash, as the selector dial on it is where the oil is seeping from, i will have to pull it apart and try to seal it properly

If it is leaking from there it is probably a rubber O ring.

What brand are they? Point about the breather is a good one - if the breather is not open, the pressure has to get out somewhere, and the hub may be the weakest point. But leaks from free wheeling hubs are common - some of them have good seals on the operating dial, usually an O-ring, others have very poor sealing - I'm thinking of ones I had forty years ago, that leaked despite everything I tried.
