Seems my Baby is NOW (I hope it stops breaking every over week) ... leaking from the engine rear seal ...
How I have done this on a sierra and ... well hated that job more than my ex, so can someone please tell me its an easy, cheap and fun job that me and the GF can do (and will count as 'Quality Time' in her dept)
See what happens when you give it a full service, it starts complaining ... I am hoping it could be a loose bolt or something (ha yar rite!)

Getting the experts to do it is definitely the best option.
Just make sure that when they put in the new seal, they put some ultra blue behind it, because if they don't, it will definitely leak again, and fairly soon like it did in mine.

I have always found it alot easer to take the engine out and not the gearbox. Main reason is it is easyer to than the gearbox. Even more so on your drive. If you have post ramps and can get the truck 8' in the air then gearbox can be done. But when you take the engine out( well you don't have to just unplug it and lift it up in the engine bay turn it around and fit the bits and then slip it back in again)
Also taking the engine out means you don't have to take the cab floor apart.![]()

also save removing the tailshafts, the exhaust pipe (post flange), and less time on your back. You can't do much with a gearbox-transfercase out of a car, but with an engine, you can give it a thorough inspection for minor leaks, give it a good degrease and just get a better appreciation of where everything is, and how accessible it is. Plus better access to the rear main without being cramped between the chassis rails under the dash to fix it.Originally Posted by Reads90

I agree with the engine out, unless you have a reason to want the box out (noisey gears, blown seals whatever)
While the engines out, you get to have a look at all your engine ancilleries like the radiators and coolers. Its also easier to trailer the engine to a workshop than the whole vehicle, providing you have the gear to lift the donk out...
