hydroing a diesel (or petrol) does not automatically kill it...

providing you werent at full noise or it just sniffed the water in you might get away with it...

just sniffing the water in will slow it down and sound like its blowing itself apart but its just the water raising the compression enough to kill the motion of the engine...

the other way it can happen is when the water in the combustion chamber cools the air charge so much that it fails to fire.... This is the way you want to hydraulic an engine...

very rarely happens this way, and usually you'll wind up with a bent rod, which means your driving home with an engine running like a hairy goat if your lucky and exploded cylinders if your not.

Luckily for most, drowning incidents don;t usually occur when your at full throttle. Low low , good bow wave through a creek or river.
Having said that, and a bit off track. had a bit of a hydraulic problem with the fergy a few months ago, the oilbath filled with water after another one of our dreaded storms. The well meaning father in law, started it, to take it down the orchard and it stopped, he kept tryin to start it and nothing. By the time he told me, I thought he had blown it up. Anyway it was locked no turning. Checked the inlet and found it was full of water.
I suppose this procedure would apply to all deisels, blow or clean the water out of the inlet, take the injectors out, turn it over, lots of water and mist comes out, then to make certain i applied liberal amounts of a wd type product.Turned it over till no mist came. Put it back together and it fired first go, the fergy doesn't have glow plugs, but I would opt for the glow plug opion first, they are usally easier.
