I would guess they have bent the float arm of the sender a very little.
If you really want to go to all the effort, take it all out and bend it back again
I have a Long Ranger 130 Ltr fuel cell fitted and it used to read around 270Km - 300Km before the gauge would move off the full reading.
I had the Disco serviced last week and they replaced fuel filter and put a can of injector cleaner through the system.
Now my fuel gauge starts to move off full at about 120Km.
Is there an adjustment on the fuel guage in the tank or what have they done.
I would prefer it back to how it was.

My guess as well. Just can't think why they would have pulled the sender unit out unless you asked them to clean the tank.
I used to get about 500km on my 152L Long Ranger in my old Disco before the gauge moved. Have the same thing on the Defender too.

From the memory the needle (light on) position is triggered by the angle of the needle not the amount in the tank. The needle angle approximates 10% of a 90L tankOriginally Posted by Pedro_The_Swift

so both D2's should have the same --
"amount" left when it lights up, ?-?---

No that would depend on the volumetric dimensions of the tank against the standard tank and how the float is positioned within it. The float is what determines the needle position.Originally Posted by Pedro_The_Swift
It is also possible that the replacement tank has more in it at the same fuel gauge level. The simplest test is to compare what you got out of a standard tank vs what you get out of the new tank once the fuel gauge stars moving. When I had a long range tank in the Disco it was very similar in volume once the gauge started to move off full.

I understand all what you have said, but I have had the tank for a year now and on every fill I got 280 - 300KM on every tank fill.Originally Posted by dm_td5
After Coffs Harbor where I had put a little dent in the bottom of the tank about 2 - 3 inch dent in around a foot diameter in the fuel tank bottom area. Usage from a full tank to the needle moving to full was 260 - 270Km. And this has been constant for around 4 months.
But now after the service at Land Rover the Gauge has gone to 120Km, Gauge reading over full to the gauge reading a full reading.
So I guess I will first have to call them and question what sort of work was done around the fuel tank for a 60.000km service, do you have to open the top area of the tank in the cargo area to replace the fuel filter ?
See if they will look at the problem on there time as it has happened on there time and Ill pay for the fix.
Or see what they have to say and just open the top and check the sender unit out myself and see if it is bent or damaged ?
Any other thoughts !
