    Thanks for the tips guys.

I'm using washers to push the cups below the level of the yoke surface as Langy suggested.
Following a suggestion from Scouse (thanks for the call Scott) I measured the gap between circlip grooves in the yoke (~74mm) and the end-to end measurement of the uni as it comes out of the bag (~82mm). Conclusion: there's no way that's going to fit without using a 50tonne press so I must have the wrong uni.

I wish I could go home.

I have to hang around to go to an opening ceremony for a new business that work has just opened.
There's free food + drinks & Vince Sorrenti is doing a bit of a show there.

    Gee life's tough .

Yes, but you're in the public sector - that's to be expected .

Pardon me if I make an on-topic post here...

Well Repco rang me this afternoon to say the rear universal had come in so I went and got it. It's the absolute twin of the uni I took out of the front propshaft except for a long shank grease nipple. I was going to swap the nipple with the old one but the threads didn't seem to like it so I stuck with the long one (it gets in the way of a socket wrench for one bolt). Inserted the spider, G-clamped the cups in to the yoke (after smearing with anti-seize), inserted the circlips (only lost one!), did the same to the propshaft end, refited the grease nipple and pumped in blue grease until it oozes from the cups. It's a bit stiff but looking good.
I reused the existing bolts to refit the shaft, took the Disco for a run and the clunks are gone! No squeaks and squawks either but the jury is still out on that issue. At least I have four wheel drive again.

The uni joint was Repco part number K5-L4R price $37.

Well done Dave . Now, do you have a grease gun ?
I try to do my nipples after every wet 4wd trip. Running an older car as everyday transport has taught me the importance of regular greasing.
