be careful when tightening up the nut because the 'crush sleeve' takes a lot to get it to start to collapse but once it has started it is VERY easy to over tighten (experience) an alternative I did on my S111 was to have machined a solid spacer out of steel exactly the same as the collapsable spacer that wouldn't collapse as it is inevitable the seal will leak again sometime! and just nip up tight

What he said, collapsable spacers are great lumps of Poo

Dont even bother trying to set the pinion bearing preload with a fresh spacer by ANY other method except for dropping out the carrier (hemisphere) and doing it properly, all other methods (i.e "By feel") are likely to end in disaster

personally i'd take out the spacer and machine up a little block as per the sample, replace seal, put it back together and you can't **** up the nut either, To easy

I'll bet you drive a toyota dontcha....

    Pull the shaft off
    pull the jesus nut out
    put the drive flange off
    pull the seal out.

inspect the pinion shaft for damage speedy sleeve it if need be

and assembly is the reverse of dissasembly.

I'll apologise for the toyota line now.. I forgot, no personal attacks allowed.

    As per my PM,

once the nut and flange is off some movement will be normal (bearing preload is now gone). IMO.

Yes normal - not sure if the pinion can be pushed into the housing, be careful. Also I don't like your chances of getting a seal at a bearing place. torak tractor has them for around $20 (from memory)
