    Red face defender tdi problem

Sorry if this has been covered already but...........

Having owned my defender for a grand total of 5 days i was driving today stopped at the shop for 5 mins max and now it wont start again.

It winds over but no fuel.

Can make it run if i run a lead directly from one of the batteries to the diesel pump.

No gauges work without this wire. I tried all the fuses i could find and the relays and circuit breakers.

Any ideas before i take it to the auto electricians in the morning and can anyone recommend a repairer on the gold coast preferably northern end. ( i am at oxenford)

Thanks a heap for any info you can give me

from memory it will be the fusable link wire from the battery to the master bus of the fuse box. These things fail after a while as the wire is quite stiff and prone to breaking after being exposed to heat.

I would also check that someone hasn't fitted an aftermarket immobiliser to it. This is the only circuit that will stop a Tdi, and the immobiliser is usually fitted after the ignition switch . An easy thing to spot for an auto electrician. Other than that, there isn't much else I can add ATM.

    I'll keep thinking about it.....

Ah Ah!!! Disconnect it and try, I'll bet it isn't working. They suffer from circuit board failures that can cause this problem, and I don't trust them as far as I can throw them, (Actually, they aren't real big, so I guess I can throw them a fair way....) Anyway, This has stopped more than a few vehicles over my time.

If there is an immobiliser fitted - I'll bet that's the problem!

I had this problem a month after buying my Disco. The fusible link went and it could be started by running 12v to the shutoff. They do go after a while as mentioned before because of heat, now done 12000kms and its been fine. I also originally thought it was an immobiliser, I have now binned it and fitted remote central locking without immobiliser.
