			Occasional Overheating - 200Tdi

					Hi all

I was reading one of the other threads about a 300Tdi Disco overheating on hills and when towing.

I have the same problem with my 200Tdi Disco, however I recently had the radiator flushed out and there isnt a problem with it... No blockages etc.

I have noticed however that when at full operating temperature the viscous fan doesn't "lock up"... infact I can easily spin it by hand with very little resistance, just as if it was cold . Would this cause overheating only on long uphills and when towing? Is there a way to test the VC that I havn't done already? . Would this cause overheating only on long uphills and when towing? Thanks in Advance

(I've just returned from a 155km drive, lifted the bonnet and shut the engine off... the fan didnt stop instantly but rather slowly came rest after the engine was turned off.)

The consensus from other sources is that the coupling can be turned by hand when irrespective of temperature. I have been advised to have the radiator rodded out or recored, which I will be doing soon.

I'll report back if with what comes of it

As mentioned in another thread, my '93 tdi200 was overheating when towing and on long up hill climbs. Prior to this the temp gauge always sat just below half way regardless. The vehicle at the time had 175K on the clock. It was found that the fan coupling had failed and the water pump seal was weeping. Both were replaced along with a new thermostat and problem solved.
