    Thumbs down Parking light problem

1993 RRC 3.9 auto on gas

I have a short in my parking light circuit, immediatly blows fuse.
The short is in the left (pass) side circuit and so far I have removed the rear lights completely, the number plate globes, the front parking light globe, the trailer wiring circuit and it still blows immediately the light are turned on.
I guess I'm looking for a short in the wiring loom somewhere. But where?
Does anyone have any idea where the loom would be most likely to short out other than at the lights themselves.

First place I would check would be the switch itself.

If you have a test meter - you could test resistance from the dead side of the fuse to earth (after removing fuse and bulbs)

Also test from the live side (switch side) of the fuse to earth -

These two tests will tell you which direction to head in

Sorry if it's only blowing one side then maybe not the switch - 'cos if it was both sides would go.

    .....do the meter tests

I'll check the wiring diagram and get back to you

From what I can see is

For the LH side bulbs the number plate lights are on the same circuit/fuse as the LH side parking/side lamps (Fuse F2 10amp in facia fuse box.

The RH Side lamps and the trailer socket is on the other fuse (F8 10 amp)

So from this you would need to check the side lights themselves and the number plate light connections

Are your dash lights still working ?
I'm not sure if they're on the LH or RH circuit though - it might be another possibility.

Have you done any work on the car recently (thinking trapped wire) ?
It's strange to have a sudden dead short. Usually the wire shorts intermittently for a while.

From what I can see the dash lights run off the RH Circuit

    Found It!!

    My fault!

I fitted a new stereo unit and what I thought was the power lead for the antenna amplifier is in fact a lead for turning the original stereo display down when the lights are on.

Disconnected it from the stereo and all is well now.

Ummm, I guess that's what they call "operator error"!
