sorry to hear your woes Frenchie,go with a new head the cheapest way possible or shove a V8 in it. TD5 engines have to have the coolant replaced every year---with the proper RED stuff--------Roly
What causes a head to corrode? I thought it was poor quality coolant?
Frenchie... has the coolant always been changed on time and with the correct grade?
If so, maybe we should all start changing the coolant more often?

Quiggers, it might not be so bad for the pug. Hasn't that got the same motor as the D3? If so, then ford is shoving that motor into more and more of it's cars so there should be higher volumes and thus lower prices(well that's the theory anyway!)
Well I hope so anyway, but then I was also kinda hoping that the TDV6 won't develop a tendency to crack heads!Especially since 100,000km is only about 6 months away!
I hope you can get it sorted Frenchie! Why is it that these things tend to happen around Christmas!![]()
Everything happens round Xmas, Jamo. Murphy must have been responsible.
I'm trying to sort out a house buy, I've got three regos, the school hols and then there's ------ Xmas. (and a few birthdays...)

Where did you find that particular service interval? LR don't mention that at all.Originally Posted by roly
It has been religiously serviced, according to the factory schedule (by the dealer up to 100,000km), every 10,000km. So it should be fine.Originally Posted by Captain_Rightfoot

I was lead to believe that the Td5 heads crack through poor castings, they aren't corroding. It's to do with the high injection pressures generated. Remember these things use a cam driven plunger inside the head to generate injection pressure.
Roly, as to OAT coolant needing replacement every twelve months, where did you get that advise ??
It's long life stuff, good for four to five years if everything is clean to begin with, the 50/50 ratio is kept and distilled/pure water used.
Think I'll stay with my olde "low compression" V8i.![]()
Fellas,(&laidies) I know they say the coolant is long life ,but three major non dealer places in Perth have all advised me to change the coolant frequently------I came up with the twelve months bit (easy to remember) Roly (ps check my reply on td5 life expectancy thread)
Frenchie-----it just occured to me,give Lloyd Denny a call,I havnt dealt with him for ages but he was brilliant with the old iron stuff--9277 5444.roly
