OK so it's a cracked head

See thread on Td5 longevity (or lack thereof).

I've been quoted $4500 for a new head (inc GST). Surely one can be had for less than that?

cant be that much surely? you could always ask the seller to put 'gift' on the packaging with a total value of less than $1000... (i think that the limit that duty kicks in?)

Sorry to say I was quoted the same when I was looking at just replacing the head. Landrover quoted $4500 for a bear head. Where is the crack. If you wanted I could get prices to weld it up for you. The guy normally builds custom race engines and gear boxes and gets jobs sent from all over Australia and some from over seas.

It's hard to see the justification in a $4,500 price tag, isn't it? I suppose they don't move a lot of them, but it's still very high. Is that because it's a BMW motor or is that the going rate for these things?

(ps. IF you get Edds mate to weld it, make sure he ties it onto his truck properly! )

You may as well fly there and bring it back as hand luggage.

    or

Find someone who works for an airline, or is going o/s and can bring it back for you.

Jamo, the TD5 is not a BMW motor. It was designed Rover and built by some company that was owned by rover or in some way related.

The only thing that is BMW about it is that they owned the company when it was produced. The design was already locked in before the purchased LR.

    Frenchie... sorry to hear mate
