Thread: Dune Flag Pole ?

I made mine out of 3 x 1m orange conduit:
2 x with joining flares, 1 x straight. The straight one is the bottom one so it fits into the holder, the other two slide onto it and it's all held together with some 6mm(?) bungee cord (similar in theory to a captive tent pole). I just drilled some suitable plastic bungs from clark rubber and the bungee runs the entire length and is knotted outside the bungs. The bungee also helps with rigidity.

I used 1" square tube welded to a bracket as a holder, and it's a good firm fit. I chose square tube to make it easier to get in and out, sand,dust and temperature will make it harder to get a round pole out of a round hole, than out of a square hole

The flag should apparently be a minimum of 60cm2 (300 x 200mm or whatever other combination, triangle/rectangle/square not specified = CAMS spec) and a minimum of 1m above the roofline.

I tried some dayglo orange ripstop nylon from spotlight, but didn't sew it so it just frayed - even after melting the edges. I found that bright PVC with a sleeve for the mast glued into it worked well and a small eyelet and cabletie secured it nicely. Sewing is just not my thing

It slides into an old pole bag from a hiking tent I threw away and lives under the backseat of the disco.

I can take photo's if anyone is interested, but that's about it in a nutshell
