2nd battery d1

I've got the 3.9 D1 and it came with a 2nd battery next to the air box when I bought it. The air intake horn had been cut off and two holes of about 1in diameter cut into either side of the air box to compensate as the battery is nearly hard up against the factory hole.

Not sure what was moved exactly but the power steering reservoir looks to be on a custom bracket. Plus the jack was moved to the drivers side inner guard near the firewall. The new jack position was very well done with brackets etc but I removed it entirely to put my air compressor there so the jack now sits in the back until I find a better spot for it.

I'll take a picture over the weekend sometime if it helps. It's not the 3.5 though as I said above.

Gidget, this is a pic of my snorkel setup which is the only way to do it if you want the air coming in the front of the air can, Safari setup has the air coming in the side of the can and directly onto a 4" circle on the side of the air filter, if you or anyone else would like full details of how I did it post a message here and I will respond, Regards Frank.

Thanks mate,, I see what you mean now,, they cut a new hole in the side of the air box & attatch it like that for the pre 94 model. & they must cap the end intack off. Double thanks as I was told safari didn't do a snorkel for these.

So I will proceed to cut the intake horn off for now & fit 2nd battery.

It would be better for the filter if the air comes in the end rather than in the side I geuss,, even distrabution of crap on the filter.

Any possibility of a few more piccies of your set up? I've got the same engine and want a snorkle eventually.

Your set up would also give you a "Cold Air Induction" cold air pick up........taking air from other than inside the hot under bonnet area and behind/to side of hot radiator......this would give you better breathing and a bit more "free" power.;)

Have you any pics of just a little bit further forward?

What is that join from the Air Filter Housing to inner guard made up from?

Like I said earlier or in another thread , I ask allot of questions & then make a dicision armed with all this information the kind people have left me. :D :D

Gidget, I bought my original snorkel (fitted to prev. 93 Disco) from a mob in SA called Goannawhere ( or something like that) 08 83690033 for under $300. They always have a 2 page ad in most 4WD magazines such as 4WD Monthly. The Disco in the shot has the Safari outside pipe (on the guard) and snorkel, but the air filter can and pipe fittings are off the 1st Disco, because the Safari one on this Disco was transferred to the first Disco when I sold it. Does that make sense? To do this you will need a short piece of Flexible hose to join the MAF to the plenum throttle body, or a piece of Turbo air hose with a bend (30 to 45 degrees) and szed to fit the 2 different sizes of the MAF and the Throttle Body, (American Autos in Homebush Sydney have them or any decent Speed Equip. shop), you will also need to remove the bolts from the (giant) water bottle and just let it sit here, although a bit closer to the firewall than usual, if you or anyone else wants detail Pics of the front of the the air filter can, let me know. No there hasn't been any problems with the water bottle, regards Frank.

I will see if I can take some more Pics tomorrow, the fittigs are stormwater 90mm plastic elbows and a collar that 90mm waste water pipe goes through a floor, pics will describe it better, promise will post tomorrow, Regards Frank.
