    Disco 1 Auxiliary Sill Tank

Does anyone know if the 40mm ridge running down near the sill can be bent/removed to make more room for a sill tank?

That lip shouldnt be in the way as the sills will stop them from sitting any higher ,are they professionally made or custom ?

It adds stiffness to the floor, but you can bend it up. Be careful of the brake line which is attached to the one under the left floor.

I would love to find a manufactured one but alas it looks like I'll have to go to the sheet metallers.

I doubt a sheet metal co will be much cheaper.

    The Defender tank is $900.00

Included is the transfer pump, float gauge, fittings, bolts, fill point, hoses etc...

Take sheet metal and hourly labour into account and theres not much in it.

Personally I would not bend that at all, it will weaken the floor.

If you decide to go to a sheet metal worker, I may still have the dimensions and a sketch of mine

The reason for the half shiny/half rusty look is that I'd just taken it out of the molasses derusting bath where only half was submerged (the now shiny bit). The tank bolted sideways to the chassis - you can see the brackets. The tank is sitting on the lower surface that you can see under the car in the first photo (if that makes sense).

    Hi Ron P38A.

Before starting...appologies for the hi-jack but it should flow back into the same thread as we progress.

I have purchased a pair of sill tanks for my 98' Discovery Series I V8Efi from a company in the UK. They have arrived here in Dubai after 4 months without any form of fitting instructions.
I have sent emails and left messages on the companies switch board but they are too busy or lazy to respond.

The tanks look the same as the one in your picture. Do all sill tanks work the same way? IE. They are simply a means of storing the fuel and when needed...you flick the switch and they transfer petrol into the main original tank?
Thats what I gather from the parts that I received with my tanks anyway!

Would anyone happen to have a set of instructions etc on how to install these things? I'm getting very frustrated at the UK company and I'm running out of time to fit them before shipping the car to India for my next trip.

Do we know of any articles that cover the instalation of these tanks? The removal of the ridge in the start of this thread would probably been one of my questions also!

    Thanks and regards.

    Streaky.

My 45L sill tanks (for a rangie) were made by Long Range Automotive. One bracket uses the lower bolt through the chassis for the gearbox mounts. Another hole must be drilled through the chassis at the same height but at the rear bracket for the tank. The other 2 brackets at front and rear of the tank, bolt to the outriggers for the bodymounts (need to drill holes.

The instructions say to bend up that stiffener under the floor.

An electric pump transfers fuel from the sill tank to the main tank. I would be surprised if the pump pickup and baffles are designed to operate at the angles necessary for the main tank.

I fitted twin sill tanks to my rangie and the design meant that they fitted without bending or removing the lip, you will only gain 10mm or so and may have problems with the fillers hitting the floor.
