Couldn't it be classed as a heavy duty air bag?......seriously though why would it fail to comply with ADR's?Originally Posted by tombraider
I took off much of the paint as it was fading away, I painted in a new matte black top section and have left the rest bare alloy.
Like so....

I think, Byron, in this day and age of the 'nanny state' there is an issue about tyres on bonnets. As in, if you crashed head on, into some other object, a great big (25kg+) tyre and wheel could end up, in the passenger area, which is not what you need when experiencing rapid decelaration.
For the same reason, metal bonnet strips have also long gone; a spear in a prang. With a tyre on the bonnet of a Disco, the forward visibility would be not much.
Then, what would one do with the USA? Where all 4x4 tyres are about 2 feet across the tread!!!! LOL

Yeah, well, stick 'em on the roof, rally style...
I pinched this off the 'net (apologies for copyright etc)

The Land Crab roof is about the same distance off the ground as a Discovery bonnet...![]()
First thing is check on what is required to make vehicle mine site compliant
would require flashing light
aerial flag 6 foot height
reversing sounders
cb radio
2 spare wheels
cargo barrier
first aid kit
spare water min 5 litres
Different sites have different compliance requirements,
Second check on whether non company vehicles (private employees) allowed on site regardless of compliance
Third check state regulations in WA non authorised vehicle cant have amber light on roof and when on non mine site must have light covered by sock.
Fourth check your insurance as to whether vehicle covered on mine lease as its not public road and insurance usually talks about coverage for public roads or gazzetted roads.
Disco now has the flag and beacon attached. First aid kit and fire extinguisher are now carried. Hand held CB which is good enough.Originally Posted by cartm58
I believe this is all that is needed for this site. My boss has approved this so I have permission as my Disco is suitable for the conditions. My vehicle has been authorised by my boss.
Insurance is ok as I have just checked with them.

At the moment it is Kanowna Belle. Our earthmoving company is doing the lift on the tailings dam. My boss is my brother-in-law and he owns the company. He has supplied the flag, first aid kit, beacon, fire extinguisher but I bought my own handheld UHF CB.Originally Posted by Bully
I'm normally based in town (doing HR and IT ) but am going out to KB daily to pick up timesheets and do other errands. I won't have to fight for a comfortable vehicle any more. I don't mind supply my own car for this purpose and there won't be any FBT involved.
We do have other work at Murrin Murrin but I'm not inducted for that site.
