    TJM Airtec vs Safari

    Hey All,

Looking at fitting a snorkel to the D2 and the 2 big brands are TJM and Safari. Now i'm not one to start pointless arguement about brand wars, but are there any pluses or minuses with either brand??

    Any help is greatly appreciated

    Cheers

I've heard a number of unconfirmed issues about Airtec snorkels, they fabrication, UV rating etc. Like I said unconfirmed so I don't know how reliable these tales are.

What I can tell you from personal experience with an Airtec is they are not necessarily the same diameter for the air ram and in fact for the Defender (yes I know you mentioned Disco) it isn't a standard air intake diameter.

The Safari is in my opinion a better made unit and it is also the OEM snorkel for LR in Australia.

I posted this one a while ago and the answer was go the safari as they have a removeable cap which can get snapped off or broken so a replacement is not a problem

the airtek i think you will find is a one piece moulded job and ive heard that they are flimsy compared to a safari

i had a safari on my defender that fell apart due to uv break down and ichange to a airtec which has been on for 3 years now with no problems i think it actually a stonger unit then the safari. and if your going for looks the i'd go the airtec. and rangieman i think you might be getting the airtec snorkel confused with the airflow snorkel, the airflow is a flimsy piece of poop.

Airtec were making Nissan's Snorkels but I had heard they had gone back to Safari as OEM.

I have a Safari, seems to be pretty good so far, though the bolts they supplied are already starting to corode and its only been on 3 months or so. Its not a bad unit otherwise, the main reason i went for the Safari was the removable head, being able to turn it around backwards when do alot of splashing around in shallow water and on dusty dirt roads sounds good to me, but the airtec definetly is the nicer looking unit.

    go the airtech

I have a airtech in a petrol d1 (square aircleaner) and it is very well designed and built. Top is seperate (can be turned backwards). Fitting is a breeze providing you have the tools. Only thing I changed is pillar mount bracket fixing from self tappers bolt sockets...however self tappers fine providing also use some sikaflex adhesive

I've had the airtec on my D1 now for about 6 years, UV hasn't affected it in any way and the top is a seperate unit. Personal preference I guess but I went Airtec originally because of the look. I couldn't pick one being better then the other as far as quality.

I'm on my second safari snorkel (4 years on the first D2 and now two on the second D2a) The first one looked as good as new after 4 years.

IMHO the airtech looks better but the plastic is softer and more prone to marking than with the Safari (this I have observed on several vehicles now)

I'd like a Airtech mad from Safari materials but will stick with the Safari for longevity.
