    Disco Rear Wheel Carriers

    Gday All,

Just curious to what size tyre can be carried on the rear of the 95 Disco. Im running oversized 245/70R16 standard and the spare is a 205/70R16. So is it possible to get the factory sandard 235/70R16's on without modification?

Not sure I understand the question

Of course you can carry the 235/70R16 as that is the standard tyre. From memory the 245/70R16 also fits on. If it doesn't or you want to go larger you can get a bit more out of the rear door carrier by taking it off and fitting it upside down.

I don't think I'd want to go far in the Disco with a 205/70 on one side and a 245/70 on the other.

My spare is a 205, just wanted to know if a 235 will fit there. Im getting new tyres soon and will be replacing all of them as 235's.

the olympic steeltreck r16*7.5 is a perfect fit on the rear carrier, adding a single piece of 4 ply on a bit of shock cord wrapped around the wheel will put most of the weight of one on the bumper instead of the door.

I have 265/75/16 muds on steels rims and when i put the spare on the door i could hear the panel flexing, some 5 mm spacer rings or thick washers would be ideal.

I have 33 x 10.5 x 15 on my disco at moment. The spare just sits on the bumper nicely (to take some weight of the door).

With the 95 Disco, you might need spacers under the wheel carrier (between taildoor & carrier).
The later Disco I's with 235's had spacer plates fitted while earlier cars with 205's didn't have them.

The factory spacers are available from LR at around $20 each (you need 2) as one of our techs here has just fitted them to his Disco I in order to fit a 235 spare. They are just 1/4" strips of flat bar if you wanted to make a set.

You could always just fit the spare on backwards but this may cause extra stress on the mount and door hinge's.
