Thread: Defender Td5 Auxillary belt.

This sounds very similar to a problem I had. I couldn't get the genuine belt and despite my (and the parts place) best efforts I kept getting sent a variety of rather dodgy branded belts (All4x4 or something). They were all just a little to big, but labeled the correct length. I ended up getting a Dayco belt which surprisingly said it was longer than the default rover belt it was equivalent to, but it's worked fine for several months.

The only thing to check is that the tensioner is doing it's job.

What belt part number was on the old belt? PQS 101510? Or PQS 101500? I am guessing here that it is still visible....
I have had HEAPS of trouble getting the right length Td5 belts, the only way I've found is to note down the OE part number and go genuine, or a genuine supplier with OE belts in stock. BUT, Check the belt number IN THE BAG also, as I've had a 101500 belt in a labelled 101510 bag, supplied from LR!!! And there is about 35mm difference in length .
Also, don't always rely on catalogue numbers, as LR have different A/C compressors in UK, and their belt lengths for a Defenders with Air is not exactly the same as ours
Discos don't have this problem, as all A/C was fitted to defenders in OZ, using local compressors etc.

You're not alone in belt selection/ supply frustration.
The key is to note down the belt number/ length before you can't read it...

There's no number at all on the belt I took off. I'm going to go over to Rovacraft and try what belts they have even if it means taking belts off and putting belts on etc.
I've had a strange reply to a request for info. from one supplier who insisted all aircon drive pulleys were the same size and "he'd" never heard of the problem. Well bully for him but it seems quite a common prob. so I won't go to his place for a new belt.
Looks like time to get my hands dirty before going down the pub.

I have had similar problems with my Disco. I have A/C but not ACE. The difference in length is about 30mm. I looked in a number of different supplier catalogues and all of them were different. I ended up going to a non LR dealer who specialises in LR products and he gave me a unit from the UK. Fitted very well. Then the squeeks started. Every time I started up in the morning, then as it gets hot and the A/C comes on etc. I noticed that the tensioner was a bit stiff so I took it off and the spring inside was jamed up with mud. After a big clean out and reassemble the belt was quiet.......for a while. I think I have worn the multi vee face so that is now just slips. On with a new belt and lets see if this one works!
