    Master / Slave Cylinders

I have ordered the Master & Slave Cylinders from Bmi in Sydney ( Mulgrave ) the Bloke I spoke to says that L/R parts supplied from UK come in 2 versions the Genuine part with L/R stamped all over the packaging and same part is sold in a white box as an after market part at a lot cheaper price , mmm? How can BMI sell Genuine L/R Parts at a certain price and re-package the same part and sell that for lot cheaper price ? and claim it's the same part ? , same parts are placed into different packaging ,sold at different price ? are these 2 parts ( Master & Slave Cylinders ), the same ? could any L/R experts in Forum confirm ? part numbers , is BMI telling b.....S,
It sounds like they're trying to get a Sale happening !

Is this a Ploy for British motor importers to increase the Sales , because it's certainly sounds like it ?

It's well known that some aftermarket companies (Britpart, Bearmach etc) buy products from the same suppliers to LandRover.
Discovery Series I headlights for example are all made in the same Italian factory. Rover insist that they have the oval molded into the glass.....or you can buy the exact same light from Marelli's without the logo at a fraction of the price.
Same applies to water pumps who I think are made by Quinton and Hazel for Rover with their logo on the box or buy the Q&H one in a red and blue box!

This doesn't apply to all parts on a Rover though....I'm just using it as a proved example.

Then you have the no-name brands from India, China etc....these are just plain rip-offs and counterfeit parts. Avoid these at all costs.....these are a huge problem in the Middle East....the packaging is perfect but the parts simply don't last and have no warranty.

I don't think BMI are trying it on with you....I know some cases to be true in this respect.

    Regards.

    Hi
You Will find its the original part from the same factory packed in a plain wrap.
If you visit www.karcraft.com.au they explain the different qualities/pricing of OE,OEM and generic parts.

Also for master / slave cylinders try PBR. Most LR (especially Defender) cylinders are just generic items and are cheap as. Another option is to get your existing ones resleeved with stainless steel. Still a lot cheaper than LR parts and will last a lot longer.

for a brake master on a 84 RRC repco quoted me $500 and somehting trade and about $1130 retail, i think LR would be cheaper for once (PBR this was)

Having it resleeved. $100 cash or $180 normal price. (remeber this is brake master so its cheape enough)And you will find LR dont make any of these parts, they are made by external companies for LR, then they make other ones without the logo and sell at what LR should seel them at.

ie toytoa genuine fan belt, made by dayco, is still dearer than dayco form repco or somwhere.

MMM, glad I own a Fender for once. I replaced bothe the slave $60 and the master $110 about 6 months ago. These were just generic units and are identical to genuine LR parts (which are rubbish anyway). I was told Discos are a little dearer. Talk to Britparts in Perth. A few guys on here have had theirs resleeved with stainless and reckon they last heaps longer. I think I was quoted around $35 for a resleeve and $16 for a seal kit.

THe clutch master cylinder on my County looks like the one used on any number of BMC vehicles from the early sixties on. Buy 'em at any mini specialist or pirate parts importer, cheap as chips.

It is also the one most commonly used on trailers with hydraulic override brakes and may well be cheaper from trailer specialists!
