    Swivel PIN HOUSING 99 DISCOVERY

    Hi , can any one tell me how to check the oil in the swivel pin housingof a 99 Discovery, is it the square plg near the top at the front of the housing (front of the vehicle).

    May be off the mark here - but I understand that the swivels are 'greased for life' - and in theory you don't check/change it.

    ..........however there are quite a few who have changed this to oil filled and other.

    Do a search and you will find loads on it.

    No not sealed for life, but supposedly greased for life.

    That is obviously if you have the type with no drain plug. .....but if you do have a drain plug then you unscrew the drain plug and the fill plug, refit the drain plug and re-fill.

    ...........but on a 99 I am sure they are grease filled with no drain.

    I am sure somebody will tell me/us if I am wrong.

    your on the money, you can check the quality of the grease through the big square one with the steering turned to lock on the side you want to check. Pull that then stick in the ratchet side of one of the big zipties. Poke it in, wiggle it about and pull it out.

    Someone else has posted a great thread on this but its more on rebuilding than checking.
