    Thumbs down Canopy Rack

Hey Guys, was just wondering if anyone had put a roof rack ontop of a canopy?. I have a 130 with a canopy over the tray and the canopy itself wont hold any sort of weight ( as its fibre glass), so was wondering if anyone has seen a roof rack that has some sort of supports, either through or around the canopy that could hold a roof rack. i had thought of just putting a small rack ontop of the cab, but the missus wants to put a roof top tent up there ( so when we go up north she doesn't have to freak out about being eaten by the crocs).
Also i have two spares and was wondering where you guys put them on a 130? I have to put them both in the tray when i go 4WD ( takes up heaps of room) and when i get a roof rack i don't really want to put them up there cos they are pretty big suckers. Does anyone know if you can get some rear tyre swing arms for a 130??

Oil in the Harness, suspension knock, transmission clunk, engine oil leaks, exhaust manifold leaks, centrifugal oil filter stripped bolts, a/c leaks, door leaks, wouldn't trade it for the world

I don't have a fender but I do have a full length ally rack on my disco & I would be suggesting that you do it the other way round. I'd be putting the tent toward the rear & putting a rack over the cab to keep it loaded centrally.

I read your post and was wondering what you would need with two spare roof top tents? Then it clicked.

I have never seen a fibreglass canopy with load worthy roof racks before. I have however seen a 130 with a exo cage over the canopy. This may be an option for you. It may be a better option to remove the canopy and tub and get a designated camper built up to sit in it's place.

I have seen the setup you mean on a mates courier twin cab with a challenge canopy, it looks custom/homemade, looks easy enough to knock up, I could try to get some pics for you as a rough guide to design & make one yourself.

My late model Falcon ute has a Flexglass Challenge canopy with roof racks. There is a load bearing support structure of square tube under the canopy. Two arches from side to side from the top of the utility well to the opposite side. The racks bolt through the canopy to the arches. Quite a few of them around up here as the electric authority used to buy them and had triple racks, two on the canopy and one over the cabin, to carry ladders and long poles for handling overhead equipment. I recently priced a canopy and racks from Flexglass for insurance purposes. New prices, canopy $1859, racks $459, third rack over cabin not known to them, must have come from another supplier.

I have roof bars that bolt through my TJM canopy to supports on the inside. As for the swing away carriers I havn't seen any but I also would love them on the back of mine. The light protection / steps at the corners is where I was thinking of mounting mine from with the lights and the carriers.

    130 racks

Rhino do a rack for canopy use, it comes in bits. not on their website!
Sort of curved vertical aluminium RHS supports. The bottoms mount to floor of tray inside then have bracket at the lip of the tub then up and through a square hole in the canopy with rubber grommets and then Unistrut like bars that sit on the top. The bars, supports, grommet kit, brackets all sold separately. Can be mounted on side or front of tub. Not much change from $350 per bar. I could only see vertical supports up to 1m in height in catalog. Don't think that is tall enough for 130 canopy. Once fitted it stays put. i would prefer to be able to remove bars for car park access.

TJM do some as well but not seen them

I have same problem. I have 3 bars for cabin but need something down the back for longer items. Would bend something up if only the pipebender worked!
Exo-skeleton may be an idea but dont want the extra width.

I am thinking of an "n" shape bar from tub lip on one side up across the inside of the canopy to tub lip on other side as close to the inside of canopy as i can get it and then have bolt holes on side of canopy. Bar supports would bolt through these on the sides up to rack across the top. removable and plugable holes.

Would be interested in other ideas and photos or even group build project?
