The reason I ask "Does a 30amp x 12v dc plug have the same capacity as a 1.5amp x 240v ac plug" is because I've a heap of 240vAC plugs/sockets in the shed looking for a job. They're mostly rated 7.5 or 10A. So will they safely take 30A x 12v DC?

Ladas says YES, Harry says NO. ????????? Can anyone explain please?

Don't know if this is correct or not but sounds OK to me.

240v switches are rated for AC they havbe a smaller air gap when open as the AC arc self 'extinguises' when used for high current 12v the contacts may weld together when the contact opens.
Apparently 12v stuff has a bigger gap when open.

Like I said can't vouch for the accuracy of this, but sounds sort of right.

Thanks Martyn - and there's always the chance of someone plugging a 12vDC accessory into 240vAC - so more Anderson plugs it is.
