    Conversion, has anyone done it?

    Gday all,
I am considering slotting in a 4.0lt quad cam V8 from a Lexus Soarer into my Rangie. Now I am sure I have seen this done somewhere before but cant find any info on it. Anyone have any ideas on places to find info on this particular conversion? I have checked the Marks adapters site and nothing there.

I'm no expert, but I believe the Lexus motor is not that good in a 4WD.
Aparently it doesn't have the low down torque.

Not sure what they did to the engines fitted to LCs.

It actually has buckets more than the 3.9 disco engine. The LC's were a 4.7 litre, not a 4litre, and they had cast blocks, with ally heads. I have an LS400 and it is a fantastic engine, I wouldn't hesitate to fit one to a RR. I would probably use a LC auto with adaptor to the LT230. I don't believe this is a difficult adapter to make. The car will sit on 1900 rpm at 110, and will get 27 MPG on a steady run up the highway, with the climate control and 4 people. It will also effortlessly see 6000rpm, and sound spine tingling while its at it. If you could use the OE engine management hooked up to the engine and trans, even retaining the twin cats and all the O2 sensors etc, then I think you would end up with a very smooth and enjoyable vehicle, that should pull well in the soft stuff too. I know someone in Hobart here with a Turbo700R4 behind his 1UZFE, in a GQ chassied Hilux Xtracab. You can buy adapters for the LT230 to Turbo trans from Marks I believe. Maybe this would be simpler? fitting up the TH700 to the 1UZFE?
I would definately recommend this conversion.

There is a guy at Kwinana Motorplex with a rail powered by one of these motors but supercharged, they love the motor and the power they are getting out of it but keep spliting the TOYOTA block in half down the guts. There answer was to make a billet block out of a lump of ali,got to have cost a packet!!!!!!!
Then there is the McSweenys, couldnt get good enough ali heads for their smallblock Falcoon,so made their own billet heads.
Sorry for the diversion, just a bit of trivia.

Great to have so many replies soo quickly, also don't worry Andy I havent deserted the LR team, just looking at different alternatives as the old 3.5 is on its way out I think. Justin I was gunna get a half cut Soarer or Crown so wouldn't have a LC gearbox and I would be pretty certain that using the Soarer or Crown box would be out of the question?? Hmmm decisions decisions????

I reckon the 1UZFE is a great engine.

I believe Mr Toyota asked what is the best V8 in the world.
The answer was a Keith Black.
So Mr Toyota said, OK, lets build a smaller version.

Aparently you can sit a 50c piece on it's edge on a rocker cover, and then bring the revs up from idle to 6000 without the coin falling over.

But they lack low down performance. They produce great horsepower and torque higher up the rev range.

I remember reading about one being installed into a hilux.
He had heaps of problems, and cost a fortune.
