Thread: spray on anti-rust treatments?

the only thing that sound similar is a product called tectoylin or something like that, and its used to protect spare parts from rust in the engineering trades. i have used it sum time ago mixed with fish oil. you mix the two together and then heat the mixture up until it runny before spraying.

Wattyl market a spray on Fishoilene, which for our climate is the closest you'll get to the UK version. Generally you'd use ( and I'll welcome other suggestions on this topic ) spray on sound deadener (tar) for underbody protection, and epoxy type paint (I use Killrust) on the chassis and undercarriage.

I use Ensis fluid. Managed to get hold of some of the stuff used for rust proofing vehicles shipped as deck cargo. Ensis V i think it is called. Has been working fine so far.

i'll second that. ive been doing some tests at work with this stuff, it sticks to most surfaces, its tuff, not entirley chip restant but pretty good. im in the process of coating the underside of the fender in the super cheap stuff, now that ive got the crappy waxy ****e that LR sprays on new cars of mine.....

after thats done im filling the chassis rails with fish oil or penetrol.

Anyhow you spray it on like oil and it hardens and leaves a protective coat. It can be used for the inside of bodywork, under body, chasis etc.

I asked in supercheap if they sold anything like that and they didn't know what I was talking about and said none of thier products do that.

A group of guys in the UK did a complete rebuild & they treated their Landie with a US product called POR 15. It is relatively expensive, but the manufacturer claims (as you do!) it is the best (& it does retail in Australia). I have never used it myself, but I plan on doing so in future.

I did my Mk 1, lotus cortina with it (Waxoyl), 1967 Model - in 1985, still got the car, still no rust - anywhere.

Stinks like hell for the first 3 - 4 weeks - but in my view worth every single penny I paid.

I bought the full kit with the round drum and pump applicator, but that was too slow, and following the instructions I thinned it with white spirit and used a normal spray gun/compresssor with a large nozzle.

Waxoyl is pretty hard to get in OZ, but as above is sold by a few places.

IMO Fishoil is MUCH better.

Where possible I always paint a thick coat of cold gal (at least 97% zinc) and then fishoil over that.
