I think you have to remove the axle shafts.
Surely it won't cost much more to add the seal to the job they are already doing.
Hi All,
Do you have to remove the stub axle to remove the diff centre in the rear of a D1? Reason......I have a leak from between the stub axle and housing but the car is in at the mechanics on Thursday to have the diff checked. I will fix the leak myself if they will not have to touch this but if they are just going to pull it apart again there is no point fixing it myself. I want to save them time and me money so will fix the leak if they will not need to touch it.
Thanks Everyone

Yep, you have to draw the axles to remove the centre.

Thanks. Wont waste my time doing it then![]()
You don't have to drop the stubs, rotors or anything else, just withraw the axles so it will be extra work,
no just take the axles outthen the diff will come out
As noted, to remove the diff centre they will have to drop the tailshaft off at the diff end and pull the axle half shafts clear of the centre. Then it is a simple case of undoing the nuts that hold the centre into the housing.
