    Well,

At work this afternoon the fuel puddle was too big to ignore. I had to drop in to LR to get some gaskets and the Reg. Before I paid I confirmed that I could return it if not used.
I had hoped to try to repair the old one first and then if I couldn't I would use the new part.

As it was the old one came apart easy and I was able to replace the O rings. Not the best fit and I shall have to revisit soon. The problem was that LR gave me gaskets that were not the same as the one that came off so I had to use the original after one of the new gaskets leaked like a seive.

The old gasket is in and it sealed up OK. I just need to wait and see if the leak is still there.

    Photos are coming.

    Good to hear eckolsim.
Only reason I welded mine was after $4,000 on parts and machining to my engine and 3 months working on it there was no way I had the $350 to spend on it at the time. Welding cost $30 and I was told the hole was drilled of centre so was doomed to fail one day due to the thin metal.

    Hi Eckolsim
The new fuel reg and gasket between the motor are an upgrade.
The new gasket will only suit the new reg,you need the old type gasket if you are just kitting the old reg out. Will be interesting to see how much luck you have with kitting it out.I kept my old reg just in case!!!

Value of regulator gasket that was opened and was wrong shape.......$6.50

Value of fuel lost during removal / installation / removal / inastallation .....$1.26

Value of 'O' ring used to repair leak in fuel regulator housing.......$0.30

Value of being able to return new $380 fuel regulator with spare gasket to LR after being told it can't be done...........Priceless.

Leak check OK with OLD gasket and new 'O' ring on fuel regulator (see page 1, item #8). Have done 300k's so far without stain or leak.

Have photos on phone, still need to format for post. On their way.

Briefly the larger of the 'O' rings is an external diameter of 25mm with a cross section diameter of 2.5mm. I will have to wait until I get home for the other 'O' ring size. The 'O' ring I fitted was not this exact size but works. I would prefer to source the right size however.

If anyone knows where to get an 'O' ring of these dimensions then please advise.

    Regards

Thanks Eckolsim. Ideally the O-rings would be suitable for use with current diesel formulation and engine temperature (at least 130 deg C).

    Hi George,
How did you manage to crack the housing, just curious as this looks like something I dont want to happen if avoidable. I thought the pressure through the fuel system was low to reduce leak probs.
Good stuff by ekolism, lookin forward to the photos, got a new digi camera from santa so will try to add photos when appropriate.

    Photos attached.

    The leak came back.
It appears the regulator is leaking with fuel coming from the static pressure side(see hole in funny looking thing).

Value of holding onto expensive new $380 fuel regulator with spare gasket and not returning it until sure leak is fixed ........$380.
