Is there a method of checking for spark without removing a sparkplug or sparkplug lead?
I have seen a dodgy looking thing in K-Mart which says it does but I was wondering if you could do it with a multimeter and coil of wire around the sparkplug lead or something like that.
Thanks.

I did actually tell my cousin to do this
For some reason he was a little hesitant![]()
Why not clamp a timing strobe light over the wire?![]()
aha! The obvious answer. I didn't think of that. We even have a timing light at work somewhere.Originally Posted by 4bee
Any other ideas for if I can't find the timing light?
Only the old fall back time tested one.

not without expensive equipment......
why dont you want to remove a lead....?
any fast induction meter will pick it up but they are still exxy...
Jaycar (from a silicon chip or similar mag) had a project that used a hall effect sensor, some circutry, powersupply and small backup battery its intent was to tell you if thered been a spike to the power during a powerfailure or if thered been a lightning strike or something...
I cant find it in the cat online or other wise so its probabley discontinued.. Im sure if you ask ladas nice he can come up with a workable circut.

My cousin's Rodeo at work will not start. I went through a few things over the phone with him and he couldn't figure it out. It sounds like it has no spark but fuel pressure seems non existant too. I am guessing that the computer is sensing low fuel pressure so isn't firing but I haven't seen it so am only guessing. It could be anything.Originally Posted by DEFENDERZOOK

From what he says the spark plugs are covered with screwed down plastic covers and the sparkplug leads disappear into a loom never to be seen again. So I thought it would be best not to get him to try and pull stuff apart.
I'll be able to see the ute on Monday when I go back to work. He had to take a work ute home over the weekend.
I just didn't add all that before as who cares about a Rodeo on a Land Rover website![]()
well...that all makes sense now......
