Thread: D2 sagging air-bag suspension

i don't run the air suspension and it sounds like you have the Land Rover fitted auto jobbie not after market Polyair bags.
So I would say faulty sensor or its the start of an intermittent fault with a airline join some where to that bag or the inlet line / valve on the bag itself.
Cant the Land Rover fitted bleed air from side to side, you would think if there was a leak both would be affected.
I would not know it if would register as a fault code on the computer.
Just a stab in the dark.

a fault in the controller valves...

the R series macks do it occasionally. when the air pressure drops in the supply tank the control valves are supposed to keep the air in. they get a leak back to the tank or to atmo and your air vanishes so your suspension drops...

when you fire back up again, pressure builds in the supply tank and overcomes the leaks. (so the suspension does its thing again) if its intermittant, its more than likely the seal back to the supply tank (or compressor, I forget whats in a D2)

Soapy water is your friend... some nice handsoap mixed about 4:1 (not the gritty stuff your wifes expensive gritfree stuff works best) paste that around everywhere theres ment to be an airtight fitting and see what bubbles... if theres no bubbles and it sags its the aforementioned seal in the control valves.

Polyairs dont replace leaky airbags,they fit inside coil springs.
You can retrofit coils,but I will bet yours is a 7 seater(7 seaters had the air setup as standard)pretty sure you will run into issues with the vehicle rego people if you do this!!!
Keep reading this thread,others have had probs and will tell you the easy fix.I have coils all round and cant give you tech details.

Thanks for the advice. The D2 is a recent buy and we 're hoping the sagging suspension will only be a minor repair instead of a costly air-bag replacement job.

I had heard that they should last for about 130k. If that's so are there any less expensive after-market air-bags to suit the D2?

for the air bags to go down the air must pass through two valves the two that are at the front of the compressor housing has three tubes going to it these control the left and right air bags there is another air soleniod inside the compressor assembly that must open in conjunction with one or both of the other soleniods before the air can escape.

usually when there is a leak on one side the ECU will dump air out of the other side as well to keep the car level,check for a loose fitting at the soleniod valve or on top of the air bag do to over tighten as they are plastic threads,you may have a crook air bag they will split around the bottom.

to check this jack the car up so the diff is hanging down undo the two tubes that go into the soleniod valve leave the middle one alone this will allow the air to drain out of the bags then you can check the bottom where it is clamped to the base,I had one that had split a third of the way around still held air unless you went over a big bump this would open the split and dump the air not bad after 5 years of abuse

Not true. The only sagged air suspension D2s I have seen have leaked through the airbag. They don't get big tears or rips, just go porous. We check for leaks with a squirty bottle filled with a soapy water solution. Any leaks will blow bubbles nicely.
