Rear wheel carrier for 2003 Defender 90

    Hey guys,
having had the Shorty for two years now the rear door is at last starting to drop under the weight of the steel wheel, so I need to purchase a rear wheel carrier. I want one that opens/closes with the rear door. Can you please advise as to the best suppliers or make (eg Bearmach etc) that are available over here. I understand there is a difference between the 2002 and 2003 models because of the rear wiper motor.
    cheers,

theres a thread going on in the tech forum from someone whose building there own. (dont have it open and dont remember who) Its looking like a really good job. Im sure if you asked real nice for a copy of his umm "plan" hed consider giving you that and you could get it fabricated.

Ive just been over the one I bought from blue tounge and I reckon I can make it for less than $100 but my pipe bender is busted ATM and is not on the list of things to be repaired.

    Hey Rob

I’m looking at fitting rear wheel carrier to my 90 also. I liked the style and the price of the Bearmach one, but after seeing the trouble that Phil had fitting it to his 90, it has kinda put me off the Bearmach.

If you are interested, I got a quote on a Scorpion Racing wheel carrier from Rovercraft in W.A. a while ago, from memory I think that it was around $800 delivered.

Also I was looking at a Mantec wheel carrier, but unfortunately I couldn’t find an Australian supplier for their products. I did get a quote from the UK though. The carrier was about £200.00 plus another £155.00 freight to get it sent over, which works out to around $900.

    Cheers

Thanks guys, I will have a closer look at both the Bearmach and the Scorpion carriers. I wonder if Scorpiuon in UK will let us import directly?
And wouldn't it be great if we had a shop like Scorpion's one in north London that we could wander into and spend a fortune on stuff just straight off the shelf.
Incidentally I saw a post on this AULRO site that Rovacraft were importing the Mach 5 wheels from MJ Lee in the UK. Now they look the dog's bollocks!! But apparently not approved yet for Qld transport (I'm Gold coast).
    Cheers, Rob

Why don't you look at the wheel carriers that Graham Cooper does? I've had one fitted to the back of my 90 for over six years now, without any problems.
You can also use the wheel carrier to lock the door open.
