    Wheel Alignment

Despite the best efforts of the tyre man to sell me Yokohama Geolanders, yesterday I replaced the Bridgstone 195/80 R15s with BFG 225/70 R16s on my Freelander. They give me an extra inch clearance and while a little more noisy around town are actually quieter on the highway.

On changing the tyres, the issue of a wheel alignment came up - I have covered 45,000km in the car and not had one done so it reasonable to get one done on getting the tyres changed - the problem is that my experience with getting wheel alignments is not good and at least half of the time it has been stuffed up and I have chewed out tyres.

The old tyres on my car wore evenly, with both outer edges having about the same wear - there was no scuffing - the centre of the tread was slightly less worn indicating I could have probably increased tyre pressures a little - but overall there is nothing in the tyre wear that indicates the alignment is anything but perfect.

So - as there are no indications of an alignment issue - would you get one done depite the car not having an alignment done for many years and many kms?

    Thanks

alignments are one of those things that your happy with or your not...

I get mine checked every oh whenever i feel like it or so based purely on the wear patterns on the front rubber and how its steering...

if your not killing tyres, its steering nice, are rotating the rubber correctly and havent replaced any suspension or steering gear then you can leave it alone.

I like to check mine over about 1000km after any works been done, an adjusstment made on new bits will go out when they "settle in"

Dave - thanks for the comments - supports my thoughts that I would be better off not touching it.
