TC/HD/ABS lights on but still working

This has been baffling me, i assumed that when these lights were on, they didn't work anymore but i've found that on this occasion the ABS and Traction control are working.

I haven't tried the Hill Decent as yet.

The other thing that's going on is, the AMV CDL actuator isn't working.

When activated, with a little persuasion (tap with a heavy object) the CDL light on the dash doesn't light up anymore, with this i'm assuming the CDL isn't engaging fully and not activating the light, maybe.

    Any thoughts.

    Baz.

tc and abs lights lit temporarily means theyre working..

if both stay lit after startup and move off (tc needs to do 7-8kph to calibrate itself on start up) youve had faults and need the brain boxes talking to and resetting.

there is an operators reset but I dont know what it is for a disco.

    1) They have been on for a while now and no resetting works, we will be getting them reset as soon as we get new rotors and pads.

    2) It's the ABS that goes out after 7ks.

    3) ABS and TC are still working.

In theory they shouldn't work, aspecially if a sensor is faulty

Its just an indication that a fault has been logged.

The fault is not necessarily an ABS sensor - I had the lights for a while with shuttle valve switch failure. That problem eventually corrected itself (maybe because I caused ABS to be activated numerous times to try to clean-out the valves and/or switches, but maybe not), althought the fault code still had to be cleared to turn the lights off.

    what greame said...

they light up temporarily on start up as a bulb indicator and while the system self checks, move off and they should all be out.

They then light up when one of 3 things happen 1. you need the function, ie you brake really hard and the abs turns on the abs light comes on and then goes off after the abs has gone back to sleep. 2. there is a fault in the system, Ie the an abs wire gets broken. 3. there is a fault in an additional system that has logged a fault worth knowing about but is not an engine critical fault.

with item 2 only the relevent light should light

with item 3 if you have the gray box of evil (an example) and it goes to lala land because it doesnt have its own dedicated check light on the idiot board both the ABS and the TC light come on and stay on, almost any of the black boxes from the alarm to the ECU can request this...

If you get both the TC and the ABS light at once and the check engine light comes on your in a world of hurt and if the engine is still runnning its in limp mode...

I believe there is an option that can be programed into the ECU that if the check engine light comes on you have a short time period of full power still available then it automatically begins to throttle you back till it cuts the engine entirely. you then have to shut down the ignition, rectify the fault that caused the shut down, then startup again

Its not quite Ddec But its pretty close to it..

I'll explain my problem, this is the 3rd occasion the lights have come on, first time it was only the TC/ABS, fault codes found, left front and right rear ABS sensor, reset by LR guy in Bairnsdale

2nd time it was a disconnected ABS cable and all 3 came on TC/ABS/HD, plugged back together and reset by me with the key in/out method in the owners manual.

3rd time brake squeal caused ALL 3 to come on, so i think problem 1 is back.

I know what the problem is, the reason i'm baffled is this, i thought when a fault is logged that item stopped working, mainly if for example it is a faulty sensor and it wasn't working but the ABS IS, wouldn't that be dangerous only having 3 wheels braking with ABS and 1 normally, wouldn't that cause instability under brakes (ie) 1 wheel would lock and the others wouldn't.

    abs tc hdc lights on

mate nnon genuine brakes can cause abs lights to log a fault, can also say it is a sensor when all it was was a brake pad squeal ,have done heaps of d2 for this problem and have seen numerous customers replace parts at great cost to find out it was just brake pads .ph 0429329518

    Hi Baz
Mine have been on for 6 months!!!!!
The systems are still active, waiting for my Nanocom to see if the S/H sensor I fitted actually cured the fault.
Once the ECU detects a temp fault 3 times it becomes a permanent lights on until reset, regaurdless if the fault is repaired,or has fixed itself.

I seem to have caught a dose of "the three amigo's" myself Mine have been on for a week now and have also found out, during a heart stopping brown underpants emergency stop, on the eastern freeway the other night that my abs still works.
From prior experience when offroad with my cdl locked, if i kill the engine and resart with the cdl locked i get three amigo's, in this instance with the three lights lit the downhill assist does not work.

    Cheers, Phill
