    Hiclone thingy !!!

Have bit the bullet and found the Copilot a Disco of her own.
Its a bog standard 98 3.9 V8 auto, with heavy rear springs and tow hitch.
It comes with a couple of stainless Hyclone air thingys, what great things do these do to the economy if any.
We're standing in line for a gas conversion to ease the fuel bill.
Does any one have any litre per km (fuel or gas ) results from there own vehicles ?
    Thats towing and non towing?

The Hiclones are the biggest rip-off out - they do not do anything. This biggest problem you will have is wasting your time taking them out - thankfully they do not seem to hurt anything if they are in.

You might get something for them on e-bay.

    they do nada...

back in the day of wide single barreled carbys they might have maybe on a good day, if you had a tailwind and were driving nicely in the rain netted you a 1 maybe 2 % increase in economy but thats it

look at how the physics work they mix the fuel and the air by swirling right?

umm since on a 3.9 theres no fuel to mix untill its up at the inlet valve where the fuel injector injects atomized fuel into the combustion chamber with the air what the hell can it do?

Funniest on is one of the guys whose a wannabe 4x4 toymota driver...

4.2l 6 cly turbodiesel... the hyclone is before the turbo...

Call me pedantic but if anything on that rig was going to swirl the air Ida put my money on the compressor wheel of the turbo.. Mind you he still claims its netting him 5% more economy

My Defender has 2 in it...like the ad says one before and one after the turbo.

    WHY?

Because the previous owner had installed them and I haven't got around to removing them.

I agree they do nothing and I get the same economy, power, performance as other people do in there Defenders. One day when I get around to playing with the hoses I'll remove them.

    Hiclones

Hiclones do nothing other than easing money out of your wallet. With the strive toward fuel economy the manufacturers would be fitting an equivalent concept if they worked.

I wonder how you would go setting up a STOOGE.Fit a placebo set,ask them to do 1000ks and report back.I bet they say more power, more economy and smoother running. Then give them the money back and say there aint any fitted!!!!

Thankyou one and all, Iwas wondering why the seller mentioned them at all. The last V8 I had was the 3.5 in the stage one and all that needed for an economy tweek was a carbys kit and oil in the dampners.
Perhaps I can use them as heatrings for a crabpot cooker.
Still looking for others kms/litre ,so I know what to expect, this is the first EFI motor Ive owned and theirs no points or carby to tweek.

    Ahh but they do...

Its all in the design profile of the manifolds, the heads, the ports and the pistons. They get to build the required turbulance into the engine.

In the days before computer design the concept of the hiclone was technically sound. Although its marketing was wrong. It could never net you more effeciency but it could make a cold car run a little better due to the increase in the mixing of the fuel and the air. Even then it only really "worked" on some cars, some of the time.
