easy 27mm
buy it as an impact rated socket and breaker bar..
if you get the tyres mounted at a tyreshop and they do it with a rattle gun you'll pretzle anything less worthy...
I need to get a wheel brace for my 1993 Disco 1 as no tools were left in the car when I bought it. I now have a bottle jack and handle but need to know what size the nuts on the wheels are so that I can get a wheel brace to fit in the event that I need to change a tyre.
Advice would be appreciated.![]()

Been there done that, bent the original wheel brace to 90 deg trYing to remove a wheel after a tyre shop had used a rattle gun on it. Took the car back and asked them to undo the wheel nuts and they couldnt get them off either because they had damaged them before. So I bought a socket and a extendable bar got the nuts off easy. I also made the tyre shop pay for them, they didnt like it but I told them it was either they pay for the bar and socket or they pay for new wheel nuts.
27 mm size 1/2" drive impact rated sockets ( ie black colour ) can be a bit hard to find. I had to go to a specialist tool shop. As blknight said get a long, strong breaker bar for more leverage. I just use a 1/2" drive breaker bar from an old socket set with a bit steam pipe slid over it as an extender. Fits in the toolbox easier that way. I have bent the bar a bit using it on the alloy rims (probably needs a stronger one )- the steel rims are easier.

Yep I meant 1/2" drive sorry - I'll edit the post.
dont go to 3/4 drive... infact 3/8th impact sockets are rated up to what they need to be for the correct torquing of the rover wheelnuts...
but 3/8 in 27mm is exxxy and the breakers are very small...
27mm impact socket from supercrap, when they have em $17ish dollars and aboutthe same from total tools, priced em today, Ive got 6 of em over the years.
from memoryeither 1 1/8 or 1 1/16th will do the trick
