I would think the clutch would work fine on 12V or 24V - but run it through a relay, they draw a lot of current.

There are a few aircon gurus on here who can tell you about the regassing issues - Hydrocarbon is an option for non R134A compliant systems - and that is what I will be using.

From a 4bd1t I got a bracket and idler pulley with a compressor. From another yard I found a pulley to bolt to the harmonic balancer pulley.
On getting home it looks like I need to completely remove the alternator bracket and fix the alternator to the compressor body. If anyone has done this can they let me know that this is right?
The lead from Justin was very helpful and will get the dash unit from RangeParts. It is complete minus the brackets for an Isuzu and compressor.
On the compressor it is marked R12 which is the old gas, no longer used. What do I need to do to get the complete unit set up for the new gas.
Also the compressor clutch will be a 24v clutch, do I need to buy a new 12v compressor or can the clutch be changed (assuming it will run on ?134A gas).

Yep, heaps of questions...but slowly getting there.
    Thanks..........David
Depending on the compressor/make type/model you should be able to change the clutch to a 12v one, do not try to run a 24v clutch on 12v - it will last weeks.

Next, generally a R12 compressor will not run well with R134a, bu you can try - but if you do make sure you have PAG or POE oil in the compressor and not mineral oil.

I think that even if it does work on R134a you will find the results / cooling very disapointing.

There are alternatives like HC's - but I cannot promote it as I am strongly involved with alternative refrigerants - and I may get a demerit point for plugging my products.

PM me if you want further info.

Those with a 4bd1 or 4bd1-t, what R138a compliant compressor do you have mounted. Brand and model number if you have it would be very helpfull. Just need to know what fits.
    Thanks, David.

After reading this I run a R12 compressor on Hi Chille, Minus-30 LPG gas and its just orrsome and a 3rd of the price.. easy to get just buy it over the counter at Bursons or Repco. And it cart the oil around. You would have to have some air con. expience to do the job your self .But its not rocket science . the big thing is dont over gas with this stuff as its so much better in heat transfer. Its on my 4BD1T 6x6 ...

Ps I also run a old -(new found in a box in a shed R12 vap) the old under dash unit with the right tx Valve for R12...
