    Setting the firewall on a rebuild.

    What is the best way to rebuild from chassis up. Is it the firewall that goes on first as everything seams to connect to it that makes it drivable.
    If it is the firewall should I just put 1 washer spacer in the main chassis bolt and sit the firewall as upright as possible with the brackets. Tighten all bolts holding the firewall then build it back towards the rear bulkhead. Then fine tune if the doors dont fit.
    Any REMLR input would be welcome as these guys seem to enjoy pulling LR's apart and rebuilding them.

    See if you can find somebody who reads and collects the UK magazine LAND ROVER MONTHLY.

    From Sep 2005 they have been rebuilding a SIII using Santana parts, and it illustrates exactly the best way to rebuild. You won't have to do all the things they did, but it gave a good idea of how to align things best.

    The condensed version of what they did was this:

    Work from both ends and adjust in the middle.
    ie they fitted the tub first, then the firewall and worked towards the middle, aligning the doors as they went. Theirs was a 4 door, if yours is a 2 door it should be heaps easier.

    Thanks Langy, I have done similar, started with rear bulkhead as that was painted first, then firewall. Will see if it all aligns up straight when the roof goes on.

    The rear tub is not easily adjustable - the firewall is, so you are best to install the tub first (even if you take it off again) and adjust the firewall to give the correct door space between it and the tub.

    Have just finished doing this on my 110 after galvanising the chassis.
    Yes as JDNSW said, rear tub first then adjust firewall with washers to get even door gaps and same distance from firewall to front of tub on each side. Then front guards on last.
    I STRONGLY suggest fitting firewall after engine/gearbox. Leave the front guards off until all engine work is done for accessability. Also leave the seatbox till last as lots of stuff is easier with it out.
