Thread: D2 door locks

If this is the same problem as the Disco1 then it will be the door locking motors. They lock as I suppose they go down with gravity but they don't have the oomph to go up.
Under $10 each at Jaycar will get you generic new ones which are easy to adapt. They are a straight swap for the rear passenger doors in a D1 but a little fiddling required for the front.

I have done the front passenger and LHS rear passenger on mine and the RHS passenger needs doing. I would think the drivers door on mine is already aftermarket due to being an aftermarket alarm.

No need to disassemble the locks either. Two or so screws to get the motor out is all.

I have two door locks that wont open by electronic means. Drivers front door will lock by the key fob but will not unlock. I have to turn the key in lock after I have used the key fob to switch off the alarm. Also the drivers rear door locks but does not unlock, you have to pull the inside handle to unlock & open. But they both lock electronically.

They both didnt happen at the same time, drivers door first then about six months later the drivers rear door.

Havent taken them apart yet because I have no idea what to look for & the drivers door looks like its a pain to pull the lock mechanism out.

Anybody got any ideas?

When you activate the button on the remote, is there a noise at the lock that sound like it is trying to work ?

If not it may be just loose dirty connections.

They are a pain in the bum to remove, I had a similar fault on my drivers side rear door.

It was trying to work - but the actual mechanism was stuffed - I ended up getting a 2nd hand one off of ebay.

Hopefully yours will just be dirty/loose connections, but if not - it's almost impossible to strip them down for repair - and hope to get it back together again.

I'll take a pic of my old one and post it.

Do you need the instructions on how to remove them - or do you have that.

Unfortunately on the DII they decided to make things a tad more difficult, and incorporated the 'motor' into the actual locking mechanism, and they are a right git.

Well that does look a little different to a D1 motor

Still not quite as odd as the vacuum operated system that was in my Grandad's Mercedes.
