As Justin says, most likely clunk is the axle splines into the drive flanges or the ball joint on the A-frame. I have also had this with a loose nut on the front of the lower rear suspension link (it was a sharp click, not a clunk), and it can be caused by any of the suspension bushes being badly worn, but you'd most likely have other symptoms in that case.
But another thing worth checking that will cause this effect, is a dragging handbrake, either not coming off properly due to a binding cable, or adjusted up too tight or contaminated with oil. Or simply the handbrake lever not fully off.
