    D1 Battery light

Ok guys I am confused.....again.. (yer I know it seams to happen allot)
Ok so the vehicle is a D1 3.5l petrol, auto 4 door

Last weekend while down watching the 1st round of the winch challenge I had a few issue's....

Problem 1, ran like a pig going up hills ?? missing & carrying on.......

Pop the bonnet Saturday morning to find holy crap,, the ht lead was actually detached from the coil & was sitting about 3/4" from the coil... The spark was just arcing across the gap & must have been earthing out occasionally.
We hook it back up & she run like a dream... no more missing

Problem 2 occurred the same time it started missing.. The alternator (battery light) on the dash is illuminated while the vehicle is running..

    We checked...
It is putting in 13.8v charge when the engine is running .....

It ran all weekend & got us home with this light on, it was putting in plenty of charge, as the fridge ran on the 2nd battery all weekend & never even got under the 11.5volts warning alarm.....

So what does this light mean & any suggestions on how to get rid of it

Once again THANKS IN ADVANCE GUYS, you are a ball of knowledge

I had a feeling this might be the case... I was thinking when I replace it to go to a bigger amp alternator..
I do run a fair bit of toys inside burning a fair bit of power... anyone got any suggestions there.....

See the thread of a couple of days ago re fitting a Magna 85 amp.
Is Your D1 early with V belts?
You can geta new diode pack and brush holder for the MM from Paddock in Uk , but if I recall it was about $180.
I think its harder with multi rib,but then I don't really know!

The site www.rangerovers.net has info on fitting AC Delco 110-140 AMP (and over) alternators, just with a few easy mods - heaps cheaper too! .......whatever fits a Gen III Holden V8 should be OK ......remember thr RR V8 was a Buick engine originally!

    Here's the link:
