    Disco LT230 in Defender?

Okay guys, who's put a LT230 out of a rangy or disco in a fender and what are the real life drawbacks with the change in ratios?

    Thanks in advance

What size tyres and what diff ratios do you have?

And how tweaked is the engine?

engine tweaked fairly well (don't ask any specifics though as was done by previous owner)... does get up and move more than i was expecting for a 300tdi.

currently running 33's but thinking 35's soon with normal ratios but will probably go the 4.11's when i find extra cash... getting the vehicle running is the first priority though

    I've done it

The 1.2Q gears out of a D2 actually.

Not much in it around town, but much more relaxed ar highway speeds.

But it might struggle if on 33s. Maybe sort out diffs & tyres, then see how it feels?

I've had the Q-gears upgrade done to my td5 defender. As was said before, no real gains in performance, but my consumption has dropped from 10L/100 to 9L/100. Much nicer at speeds above 70km/h...

The td5 doesn't react adversely to it, but I'm not sure how the 300tdi would react... Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK says it doesn't react badly.

hi, i would not recomend it, if you use your Defender for towing or life up in hilly country. fit a overdrive instead, GKN or Rockymountain, bit like having a sixth gear. cost a bit but work ok.

I think outlaw is trying to get a cheap T-case, not spend $2000 on an overdrive...

Outlaw, as mentioned, 33's would probably be a struggle and 35s hopeless - unless you did a diff ratio change at the same time.

My county 110 (3.9 ISUZU) has 1:1 t-case gears (40% higher than a defender, 20% higher than a disco) and pulls them fine on 33's. But I have a lot more low down torque than a tdi.

What the?? LT 230 is transfer case, R380 is gearbox. Bit difficult to put a gearbox where the transfer case lives.
